Dealing with others
Today went quite well, considering my fears for the day. My wife and I went out shopping for groceries, taking advantage of Sainsbury’s policy of offering their fruit and vegetables that are approaching their display until dates at a discounted price, thereby saving quite a sum - see the Freeganomicon at http://captspacebat.today.com/2008/12/05/freeganomicon/ for further discussion of these policies.
This went off well, along with a visit to the local charity shops in the further quest for bargains and items in with to invest. So far, so good. We finished our venture into the outside world with a spot of R&R at their nearby pub, Ganley’s (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/25/250/Ganleys/Morden) There, in the beer garden, we met an Australian whose wife was out shopping in Oxford Street. As a hater of crowds and commercialism, he had settled in the beer garden for the afternoon rather than facing the throngs of shoppers. He regaled us with animated tales of his idolisation of various film stars and singers of the twentieth century, along with the numbers of Christmas cards he had received from each and over how many years. He was great fun company and helped pass an hour or more, comparing the various merits of the accomplished.
As we were preparing to leave, a drummer, reminiscent of Charlie Watts, came out to smoke and drink - our companion seamlessly transferred his line of discussion to him. I hope that he passed as enjoyable a time as we had done.
