Varied jottings
Today I have mostly been banging my head against an abstracted brick wall trying to get a database of geo-mapped data onto Google Maps with varied success. Mid-afternoon, I realised that I was not getting as much progress as was needed, so I did something almost unheard of - I asked for help and ideas from fellow developers at the programmingtalk.com forum; an admission of my limitations, The best bit was, someone actually replied - within a few hours - giving helpful links and a great insight on proximity searches that did not involve Pythagoras and so saved a great deal of squaring and rooting. Result!
My daily search for all things on the borderline yielded this fascinating result:
“New Hope for People with Borderline Personality Disorder Your …Most Popular. Fatal error: Call to undefined function: akpc_most_popular() in /nfs/c02/h06/mnt/15238/domains/ on line 23.”
… which was insightful, if only by accident of bad coding and attempts to hijack traffic to a gym site.
“Borderline Personality Disorder and Violence” was another interesting headline, leading to the revelation that most people with BPD are not violent. This hardly came as a surprise as the rage is usually internalised, leading to self-harm & suicide. Also because of our difficulties in fitting onto societal norms, it certainly has been my experience to have far more frequently been a victim of physical violence; mostly meted out by supposed “normal” people. Ho hum.
Another fascinating resource came my way: http://bpd.about.com/ which again should have come as no surprise except for ny ability to overlook the bleeding obvious - as it is the site that I most often recommend for anyone wanting to know everything about anything …
I must start adding some of these resources to my blogroll.
More geo-updates tomorrow.
